AVATR brought the VISION XPECTRA concept to the Chengdu Motor Show 2026: a 5,843 mm glass-cabin grand tourer that previews the brand’s next design language.

At the Chengdu Motor Show, our correspondent spotted one of the strangest cars at the show — the AVATR VISION XPECTRA. This is not another production launch, but a concept that shows where the Chinese brand plans to take its next generation of vehicles.

The scale is easy to feel in person. The VISION XPECTRA stretches 5,843 mm in length, 2,132 mm in width and just 1,405 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,450 mm. That makes it look less like a conventional sedan and more like a giant four-seat grand tourer.

The standout detail is the almost fully transparent upper body. A huge curved glass surface runs across most of the roof, and the concept has no central pillars at all. Avatr paired it with coach doors, four individual seats and unusual transparent headrests. Photos from Chengdu make it clear how open the cabin feels even with the doors closed.

Inside, Avatr calls the architecture the Panoramic Prism Cabin. It uses transparent and semi-transparent materials, 3D-knitted elements and an interactive central module called The Vortex. Another experimental feature is Smart Light Key, which combines touch and gesture control. The automaker positions XPECTRA as an “emotional intelligence” concept.

Chinese sources also point to an 800-volt architecture, CTP 3.0 cell-to-pack tech and a next-generation lidar with 896 lines, alongside a Taihang intelligent chassis and a Kunlun system reportedly shown alongside the car. However, Avatr has not disclosed production-level figures for the motor, battery, range or performance — this is a technology show car, not a model ready for sale.

Chengdu is not the Xpectra’s debut, either. The car was first shown in September 2025 at IAA Mobility in Munich, then made its Asian debut in April 2026 at the Beijing Auto Show. Now the concept has appeared again at the Chengdu Motor Show, which runs from August 21 to 30.

There is a practical point to this show car. Avatr says directly that the VISION XPECTRA sets the brand’s new design language, with elements set to carry over to its second-generation production models. So the unusual lighting, body surfacing and some of the cabin ideas could eventually reach cars that actually go on sale.

Avatr already sells the 11 and 12 in several markets, and the brand has design studios and partnerships tying it to Changan, CATL and Huawei. The VISION XPECTRA itself has no production price, and the company has not announced any plans to build it.
