Changan UNI-V hybrid: fuel consumption, specifications and September China launch

The UNI-V Blue Whale Super Hybrid will debut in China on September 12 with a 1.5-liter turbo engine: the manufacturer claims city fuel consumption of just 3.39 L/100 km and 0–60 km/h acceleration in 3.59 seconds. Chinese media received the launch date directly from Changan.

However, the 3.39 L/100 km figure should not be read as a conventional combined-consumption number. Earlier filing data for the UNI-V HEV listed a different figure of 4.28 L/100 km. The same documents confirm a 110 kW 1.5T engine, a Sunwoda traction battery and no need to charge the car from a plug. The difference comes from the test conditions: 3.39 L/100 km is specifically claimed for city driving.

The hybrid is almost the same size as the gasoline UNI-V, measuring 4740x1838x1435 mm with a 2750 mm wheelbase. Changan lists 18- and 19-inch wheels, an electrically operated rear spoiler and a claimed 0.21-second response at launch.

The new HEV therefore expands the UNI-V range in China toward efficiency rather than a larger, more powerful combustion engine. The next key date is September 12, when the price, total hybrid-system output and final trim lineup are expected to be announced.
