Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label: UK price, V6 TDI specs and equipment

Volkswagen has opened UK orders for the Amarok Dark Label. The 240 PS V6 pickup costs £47,870 before VAT and adds black styling, 20-inch wheels and a rear differential lock.

In Australia, the Amarok Dark Label was capped at 200 units, but Volkswagen has taken a different approach in the UK. On the British website, Dark Label now appears as a full trim level between Style and PanAmericana, and orders are already open. The company has not announced a production limit for this market.

The base price is £47,870 excluding VAT. With the UK VAT rate of 20%, that becomes £57,444, before any differences in road charges, options or individual purchase terms.

There is no technical revolution here. Dark Label uses the 3.0-litre V6 TDI with 240 PS and 600 Nm, a 10-speed automatic transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. A rear differential lock is standard. Volkswagen has focused on appearance rather than output: the front X-shaped panel, grille, roof rails, side steps and rear sports bar are finished in black, while matte 20-inch Bendigo alloy wheels and darkened rear lights complete the look. Inside, the cabin gets black ArtVelours trim.

The status of the model is what separates the British pickup from the Australian Amarok of the same name. In Australia, the Dark Label V6 is sold as a limited run of 200 vehicles, while Volkswagen UK has inserted Dark Label into the trim sequence Style — Dark Label — PanAmericana — Aventura.

At the same time, regional differences in the Amarok family now go beyond trim levels. Volkswagen is preparing a completely different branch of the pickup for South America, while the European Amarok remains closely related to the Ford Ranger on the T6 platform.

The next useful measure of the British Dark Label will not be its already familiar power output, but real dealer arrivals and the prices of vehicles actually in stock. Those figures will show how closely the £47,870 catalogue price survives once taxes, road costs and options are added.
