Vauxhall Astra manual: UK price and key specifications

Vauxhall has restored a six-speed manual to the Astra range. The 130 PS petrol model starts at £26,495 in the UK, £1000 below the eight-speed automatic.

Vauxhall has brought a manual gearbox back to the updated Astra range while also lowering the model’s starting price. The new petrol version with a six-speed manual starts at £26,495 in the UK — £1000 less than the version with the eight-speed automatic. Orders are already open.

The manual is offered only with the 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo engine producing 130 PS and 230 Nm of torque. The hatchback accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 9.7 seconds, while the Sports Tourer takes 10 seconds. Top speed is around 209 km/h, and fuel consumption is about 5.6 L/100 km.

The manual version is available in all three trim levels. Griffin costs £26,495, GS is £27,995 and Ultimate is £30,495. Vauxhall has also kept an unusual pricing policy: there is no premium for the more practical Sports Tourer, with the estate and hatchback priced identically.

Even the entry-level Astra is not sparsely equipped. Griffin includes 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats and steering wheel, a 10-inch infotainment system with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, parking sensors and adaptive cruise control. A new Denim Blue paint colour has arrived alongside the return of the manual gearbox.

The manual gearbox itself is not new to the current Astra generation. It was offered before the model was updated, but after the facelift the entry petrol version became the £27,495 automatic. Now three pedals are back in the range and have once again lowered the Astra’s starting price.
