Kia PV7 2027: range, battery, payload and passenger capacity

Kia has finally revealed the specifications of the PV7, which is due to go on sale in 2027. The large electric van will use 71.5- and 96.2-kWh batteries. The long-range version is expected to cover more than 460 km on the WLTP cycle, while the 800-volt architecture allows a 10-to-80% charge in about 25 minutes. The electric motor produces 200 kW, or roughly 272 hp, and 420 Nm. Front-wheel drive will be standard at launch, with an all-wheel-drive version to follow later.

These are exactly the figures Kia left out of its August teaser: at the time, the company showed the PV7’s exterior but did not disclose battery capacity, range or payload. The model has now effectively moved from the announcement stage toward series production.

The PV7 will be offered in Cargo and Passenger forms. The long-wheelbase cargo body holds up to 6.1 m³, while the high-roof version reaches 8 m³. Maximum payload is up to 1,200 kg for the Compact version, while the European Long is rated at 1,165 kg. The load bay can take three Euro pallets. Passenger versions will be available with seven, nine or 11 seats. The Long version measures 5.35 m in length.

Compared with the smaller PV5, the new van clearly moves Kia’s PBV range into a larger class. For reference, the PV5 Cargo with a 71.2-kWh battery can travel up to 416 km, but it belongs to a more compact segment. The PV7 gets a battery of up to 96.2 kWh and enters the midsize commercial-van class directly.

A comparison with the Renault Trafic Van E-Tech, presented in detail at IAA Transportation on the same day, is also revealing. For the version with an 81-kWh battery, some European Renault websites quote up to 470 km of range and payload of up to 1.3 tonnes, while cargo volume reaches 5.8 m³. Kia counters with as much as 8 m³, although it uses a larger battery. A direct comparison remains provisional because Renault’s figures vary by market and are still subject to final homologation.

PV7 sales in Europe and South Korea are scheduled for the second half of 2027. Kia plans to expand the family gradually to 23 derivatives, including specialist bodies and fleet-oriented solutions. Pricing has not yet been announced, making it the main unknown ahead of the opening of orders.
