Genesis GV90 retractable OLED display: specifications and durability tests

Genesis details the GV90 retractable 24.6-inch OLED: 90 mm of travel, 3840×1440 resolution, sub-40 dB operation and more than 100,000 test cycles.

More than 100,000 test cycles and noise below 40 dB — Genesis has revealed how it developed the unusual retractable display for its flagship GV90. When parked, pressing a button raises the OLED display by 90 mm, transforming it from a 23.6-inch working screen into a 24.6-inch Cinematic Display. As the vehicle starts moving, the mechanism automatically lowers the panel again, partly so it does not interfere with deployment of the front passenger airbag.

When extended, the screen measures 584.1×219 mm and has a resolution of 3840×1440, while the visible area grows by about 1.7 times. It works alongside a 25-inch HUD, the new Pleos Connect system and the Gleo AI voice agent. In Park, the interface switches to Media Home for streaming services and live channels.

The hardest part was not the OLED itself but its mechanism. The motor, gears and guides added weight to the assembly, so a conventional mounting solution could have caused vibrations. Engineers attached the display directly to the cowl crossbar, while the lifting system uses a BLDC motor and linear guides. The system was tested across a range of temperatures, including −30 °C. According to Genesis, the mechanism successfully completed more than 100,000 test cycles while noise remained below 40 dB.

There is another detail that Genesis barely emphasizes in its latest material. Samsung Display supplies the panels: the central screen uses tandem OLED technology and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, while two additional 13.2-inch OLEDs with 1920×1080 resolution are mounted on the backs of the front-seat headrests.

The screen itself is not new: SPEEDME mentioned it at the Genesis GV90 world premiere. The new information is elsewhere — Genesis has now disclosed the results of durability testing for the moving assembly, its work to suppress vibrations and the safety logic behind the mechanism. Final specifications and equipment for Europe have not yet been confirmed. Genesis notes that the global version shown may differ from the European model, and the GV90 is not yet on sale in the EU.
