Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake: Japan price, 513 km WLTC range and Launch Edition

Mercedes-Benz has started sales in Japan of the CLA 200 Shooting Brake with EQ Technology Launch Edition, limited to just 50 cars. The starting price of 8.03 million yen applies to 15 cars in Polar White. Another 15 cars in Cosmos Black cost 8.17 million yen, while 20 examples in MANUFAKTUR Alpine Grey are priced at 8.30 million yen.

There is a more revealing figure. The regular CLA 200 Shooting Brake with EQ Technology starts at 6.91 million yen in Japan. The gap between the starting prices is 1.12 million yen, or 16.2%. In return, the Launch Edition gets AMG Line Plus, the Night Package, special 19-inch AMG wheels, MULTIBEAM LED headlights, a sportier cabin treatment and the MBUX Superscreen. Mercedes-Benz says the special edition was created specifically for the launch of the electric Shooting Brake and is limited to 50 units.

The technical package does not turn it into a separate high-performance version. A rear-mounted electric motor works with a two-speed transmission, while the traction battery has a capacity of 58 kWh. The claimed driving range reaches 513 km on the WLTC cycle. The Japanese version supports AC charging at up to 6 kW and CHAdeMO fast charging at up to 100 kW. Mercedes-Benz separately notes that the maximum fast-charging power of the Japanese cars differs from the European specification.

The Shooting Brake is already moving beyond a single market: fully electric and mild-hybrid versions have also been confirmed for Australia. The Japanese Launch Edition is especially interesting for another reason — it shows how much the price of the same new CLA can depend not only on the battery and body style, but also on local equipment and charging standards.
