BMW is doubling down on the new X3’s adventurous side with a special Rugged edition. The fourth-generation model stays on the CLAR platform but stretches to 4.75 meters in length, gains everyday usability, and now offers a 570-liter luggage compartment. The chassis has been reworked as well, with promises of more composed road manners against familiar rivals such as the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Volvo XC60, and Lexus NX.The Rugged’s calling card is its readiness to leave the tarmac. Outside, it brings an electric tow bar, protective body film, roof rails, and a 320-liter roof box. The usual 19-inch wheels give way to more terrain-friendly 18-inch rims shod with General Grabber 225/60 R18 tires, backed by an advanced adaptive suspension—an approach that should make light work of gravel and battered tracks. The spec reads like a thoughtful pivot toward real-world adventure rather than showy add-ons.Inside, the updates are subtler but still aimed at comfort: heated front and rear seats join the list, along with branded rubber floor mats. Nothing flashy—just the kind of touches that make daily use easier.Under the skin, there are no PHEV-style surprises. The Rugged is based on the diesel X3 20d xDrive with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder delivering 197 hp and 400 Nm, paired with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic and all-wheel drive. A 48V mild-hybrid system helps trim fuel use. Official figures quote 0–100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, a 215 km/h top speed, and consumption of around 6.2 l/100 km. The starting price on global markets is the equivalent of €61,350.
