A next-generation electric BMW M3 prototype, known internally as ZA0, has been spotted testing in Germany. Fresh spy shots reveal, for the first time, production-spec headlights shaped in BMW’s Neue Klasse style. Each cluster features two slanted LED elements, a motif already seen on the brand’s latest EVs.The arrival of finished lighting points to a mature stage of development. The test car also carries sizable brake discs, signaling a serious stopping setup. That tracks with the expected mass of the future electric sedan: the current M3 xDrive weighs around 1,780 kilograms, and the battery-powered version may climb past 2,000 kilograms.Preliminary information indicates the electric M3 will use a powertrain with four electric motors. According to sources, output is expected to land around 800–900 hp—short of the previously rumored four-figure mark, but still comfortably above the current gasoline M3 Competition. Judging by the hardware on display, the focus looks to be on straight-line punch backed by confident control.Series production of the electric BMW M3 is planned for March 2027, with the electric X3 M anticipated to follow in November. Inside, the model is expected to feature a 17.9-inch central screen with the new iDrive X and a Panoramic Vision projection on the windshield—an arrangement that should underscore a clean, tech-forward cockpit without turning it into a distraction.
