BMW has barely stepped into 2026, yet engineers are already running real-world tests of the next updates. A prototype of the facelifted 5 Series Touring wagon has been spotted on public roads, and even through the wraps it’s clear the changes lean toward evolution rather than a clean break.The most noticeable tweaks appear up front. Judging by the shapes under heavy camouflage, BMW seems to be moving away from a full Neue Klasse-style reface; instead of the flatter, wider treatment seen on early mules, the familiar twin-kidney outline is back. The bumper looks close to what previous test cars showed, while a horizontal piece above the license-plate area and split lower intakes point to an M Sport flavor. There are no visible exhaust tips at the rear, which makes it clear this is not an M variant. Keeping the classic grille expression should also reassure loyal buyers—a sensible choice for a core model.The tail is expected to keep the current Touring’s silhouette, though the light clusters may adopt a new internal signature that echoes the brand’s upcoming designs. From a usability standpoint, no big shifts are anticipated: the tailgate glass appears to remain fixed, without separate access to the cargo area. Some might miss the added flexibility, but consistency often wins in everyday use.The interior is where the refresh is rumored to push hardest. Talk centers on the iDrive X interface and a Panoramic Vision projection, plus a possible extra display for the front passenger.
