Chinese premium marque Hongqi is preparing a broad push into Europe. By 2028, the company plans to roll out 15 new electric models and build a network of 200 dealerships.

The first to arrive is the EHS5, a midsize electric crossover that made its debut at the 2025 Munich motor show. It features an 85 kWh battery and claims up to 550 km on the WLTP cycle. Rapid charging can raise the state of charge from 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes. In China, outputs range from 339 to 610 hp; for Europe, versions with slightly reduced power and smaller batteries are expected. The EHS5 blends Eastern and Western design cues, targeting buyers who want a contemporary yet understated look—an approach likely to resonate with those wary of excess.

Hongqi’s strategy leans on a mix of technology, quality and competitive pricing. The brand has also partnered with Leapmotor, enabling a new platform for future models. The first vehicle on this base is slated for Europe in late 2026—a pragmatic step that should speed development and help keep costs under control.
