Third-generation Alpine A110: electric platform, battery layout and new design

Alpine has shown for the first time what the body of the third-generation A110 will look like. It is not a finished production car yet: the company created a full-size sculpture beneath a translucent veil, revealing a low silhouette, the familiar V-shaped nose, pronounced wheel arches and new lighting graphics. The sculpture will be displayed at the Paris Motor Show, which opens on October 12.

For the A110, this is more than a design change. The next generation will abandon the petrol engine entirely and move to the new Alpine Performance Platform. The company had already tested this technology in the A110 FUTURE prototype during the summer, but its body was disguised with elements from the current model. The new sculpture is the first look at the proportions of the future car itself.

One of the key engineering features is the traction-battery layout. Instead of one large pack under the entire floor, Alpine uses two sections: 25% of the energy is stored at the front and 75% at the rear. This arrangement helps preserve the A110's very low seating position and characteristic body height. The system operates at 800 V, while two independently controlled electric motors are mounted on the rear axle.

As recently as September 22, the company had only promised to reveal new details about the A110, with that step presented as a separate event. It is now clear that Alpine chose to show the model's design direction before publishing the production car's specifications.

Final power output, battery capacity, weight and certified driving range have not yet been officially announced. Production of the third generation will remain in Dieppe, France, where manufacture of the previous A110 has already ended after 28,701 second-generation cars.

The next major step will be the full debut of the production A110, when Alpine reveals the electric powertrain specifications and the final body without the stylised veil.
