BMW has officially unveiled the electric version of the 3 Series—the new i3, positioning it as one of the most technologically advanced and long-range electric vehicles on the market. Journalists from SPEEDME learned during the presentation that the model is built on the new Neue Klasse platform with an 800-volt architecture. A key achievement is its range of up to 895 km, making the i3 a leader among production electric cars in Europe. This result is enabled by a 108 kWh battery and improved body aerodynamics. The powertrain includes two electric motors—322 hp on the rear axle and 165 hp on the front axle. Combined power reaches 463 hp, bringing performance close to M-series levels. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is expected to take about 4 seconds. This is based on the sixth generation of eDrive technology with an 800-volt architecture and new high-energy-density batteries.Charging deserves special attention: in just 10 minutes, range can be replenished by approximately 400 km thanks to support for up to 400 kW of power. The design follows the new Neue Klasse style with integrated lighting and a radiator grille, while the interior features a panoramic display over 40 inches long and an updated iDrive system. The new Heart of Joy computing complex operates 10 times faster than previous systems and handles vehicle dynamics and behavior. It is complemented by the new Panoramic iDrive multimedia system and the BMW Symbiotic Drive architecture.Production of the model will be established in Munich, with the price expected to be on par with the hybrid 3 Series. Within a year, the plant will fully transition to producing Neue Klasse electric vehicles.Overall, BMW is making a serious bid for leadership in the electric sedan segment by offering a combination of range, power, and next-generation technologies.
