Mercedes-Benz continues to test the boundaries where technology meets art. In September, the company unveiled the Maschine collection, created with Dutch digital artist Harm van den Dorpel and the art collective Fingerprints DAO. It is the first series of NFTs under the Mercedes-Benz NXT brand, bringing together art, algorithms, and the philosophy of automotive design.

The collection includes 1,000 unique digital pieces, each generated by a dedicated neural network. The algorithm varies shape, color, and composition to create a stroboscopic sense of perpetual motion. The source material is unmistakably automotive: the rotation of a wheel and the shifting vistas of the road.

During the presentation, the audience will see a live demonstration as Harm van den Dorpel and Mercedes-Benz Chief Design Officer Gordon Wagener create NFT works in real time. The company aims to show that automotive aesthetics can move beyond the realm of machinery and become part of digital art.

For Mercedes-Benz, Maschine reads less like an NFT experiment and more like a deliberate image play: the car turns into a component of cultural space. Generative art underlines the brand’s values—motion, dynamism, individuality. The vehicle and the digital artifact feel like links in the same chain, reflecting what contemporary design strives for when it blends engineering precision with expressive form.
