BMW has officially confirmed the development of a new generation 3 Series Touring wagon, even as crossovers continue to dominate the global market. This model will be part of the brand's strategy to expand its lineup, which is set to include up to 40 new vehicles in the coming years.

The first teaser of the wagon was shown during the presentation of the new electric i3 sedan. BMW isn't revealing details about powertrains yet, but the Touring is expected to maintain the lineup's flexibility, offering both internal combustion engine versions and a fully electric variant.

Based on initial images, the model will feature a distinctive silhouette with a lengthened roof and roof rails, emphasizing practicality. However, it remains unclear whether the wagon will retain the signature separate-opening rear window function, which was removed from the larger 5 Series Touring.

The arrival of the new BMW 3 Series Touring confirms that the brand isn't abandoning classic body styles, providing an alternative to SUVs. In a market where wagons are gradually disappearing, this new model could carve out a niche as a practical and more affordable option for those who don't want to switch to crossovers.
