Chinese auto giant Chery may soon expand its Australian line-up to six brands, with the company confirming plans to launch Lepas, a new SUV sub-brand slated to debut in 2026.Lepas will sit alongside the core Chery marque, which arrived locally in early 2023, as well as Omoda and Jaecoo, whose vehicles are sold through standalone brand showrooms. They’re set to be joined by iCaur, an electric SUV brand, and Jetour. It’s an unusually ambitious multi-brand push for a newcomer, hinting at a strategy to carve the SUV market into tightly defined niches. The first Lepas model expected for Australia is the L8, a mid-size SUV closely related to the Tiggo 8 and Tiggo X in Chery’s local range. Its front end mirrors the Tiggo X, while the rear is unique, with a sleeker roofline and different door handles. The familiar face paired with a distinct tail should keep family ties clear while giving the L8 its own identity on the road.
