Mercedes-Benz updates G 580 EQ electric SUV for 2026 with improved performance

Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to launch an updated version of its premium electric SUV, the G 580 EQ, with the premiere scheduled for 2026. This revised model will feature several key technical improvements aimed at enhancing the vehicle's overall performance.

A major upgrade is the increased battery capacity, which rises from 116 kWh to 117 kWh. This boost extends the driving range to an impressive 479 kilometers on the WLTP cycle, giving drivers greater flexibility and reducing the need for frequent charging stops.

The fast-charging system also sees an enhancement, with power increasing from 200 kW to 210 kW. This improvement significantly cuts down charging times, allowing owners to replenish the battery more quickly at modern fast-charging stations.

Additionally, the updated model introduces a convenient built-in onboard charging station with a capacity of 22 kW. This feature eliminates the need for external devices when charging from standard AC household outlets or regular charging points.

Visually, the update includes a new distinctive body color called "Aqua Mint," which adds a touch of elegance and individuality. The vehicle will also come with exclusive 20-inch AMG alloy wheels that emphasize its sporty character.

However, a notable design element from the previous version—the signature black front panel—will be removed from the updated model's configurations. This feature was once considered a hallmark of the brand, but developers have opted for a more classic appearance while maintaining the brand's overall conservative spirit.
