China’s Dreame Technology, best known for its home appliances, has announced plans to step into the electric-vehicle arena. The company is weighing the construction of a factory for luxury electric cars in Brandenburg, not far from Tesla’s site in Grünheide.

Regional authorities have confirmed that talks are under way, while keeping specifics under wraps. Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke signaled that projects of this scale demand careful groundwork. Dreame’s chief executive, Yu Hao, considers Germany a pivotal location for the company’s expansion.

Dreame points to the region’s strengths, including mature logistics and established supply chains. A team of around 1,000 specialists has already been assembled for the project. At the same time, local activists are voicing ecological concerns about water consumption and deforestation—issues that were previously raised in connection with Tesla as well.

The choice of Brandenburg reads as an attempt to plug into a ready-made industrial ecosystem and operate in Europe’s most closely watched EV neighborhood. Setting up near Grünheide may streamline access to infrastructure and talent, but it also invites constant comparison with a high-profile neighbor—pressure that can quickly expose missteps.

Experts are taking a cautious view. Analyst Ferdinand Dudenhöffer noted that Chinese manufacturers often make bold announcements and do not always carry them through. Even so, a Dreame plant could intensify competition and reshape the balance of power in Europe’s electric-vehicle market.
