The Geely E2, a compact B-segment electric vehicle with a range of around 325 km, could see local assembly in Europe. According to industry sources, production is planned for the Ford plant in Valencia.

Geely is in talks with Ford about manufacturing the E2 model, also known as the EX2, at the Almussafes facility. Currently, the plant only produces the Ford Kuga, and a new contract could significantly utilize its capacity.

The Chinese company has already begun contacting local suppliers, indicating a high likelihood the project will proceed.

Built on the GEA platform, the Geely E2 is a five-door hatchback measuring 4.14 meters in length. For the European market, a version with a 116 hp electric motor and a 39.4 kWh battery is expected. It boasts a claimed range of about 325 km under WLTP testing, with fast charging to 80% taking around 25 minutes at up to 70 kW.

Local assembly would allow Geely to cut logistics costs and compete on price with models like the Renault 5, Citroen e-C3, and BYD Dolphin. For Spain, this means new investments and better utilization of production capacity.

Overall, the Geely-Ford project highlights how Chinese brands are strengthening their European presence through localization. If the deal goes through, the budget electric vehicle market will gain another serious player with a European base.
