Fiat is developing a small electric passenger car related to the Citroën 2CV project. A 2027 reveal is possible, while its price and specifications remain unknown.

Fiat is developing an affordable electric city car, not another low-speed quadricycle like the Topolino. It will share Stellantis’s E-Car architecture with the revived Citroën 2CV project but have its own styling rather than copying the original Panda. The project is well advanced, although Fiat chose not to display it at the 2026 Paris Motor Show.

In an interview with Autocar, Fiat executive Arnaud Belloni confirmed a small electric model based on the same technical foundation as the future Citroën 2CV. Chief designer François Leboine said development was at roughly the same stage as the French concept unveiled in Paris.

The new Fiat is intended as an electric alternative to the existing Pandina. Belloni rejected a purely nostalgic design approach. Sharing a platform with Citroën does not mean sharing the same exterior or interior design.

The Citroën 2CV Concept measures 3.76 metres long. Citroën is targeting an entry price of around €15,000 for a future production model, expected by 2028. That is not a confirmed Fiat price: the Italian car’s output, battery capacity and range also remain undisclosed.

Belloni told Auto Express that the Fiat will be a full passenger car, not an L6 or L7-category quadricycle. He suggested a possible reveal in 2027, without announcing a firm date.

Stellantis plans to begin producing a family of affordable E-Car models at Pomigliano d’Arco in Italy in 2028. Specific production dates for individual Fiat and Citroën versions have not yet been confirmed.

Fiat has registered the name Koala, following its tradition of animal names such as Panda and Grizzly. However, the company has not confirmed that its new electric car will use it.

The next milestone is the public debut, when Fiat should reveal the final name, design and specifications. Until then, the E-Car project is confirmed, but the vehicle’s pricing and detailed specifications remain open.
