Genesis small EV 2026: price, rivals and what we know so far

The cheapest Genesis you can buy in the UK right now costs £54,115. That is the challenge facing a potential smaller EV: the model would need to close the gap with the Volvo EX30 at £33,060 and the MINI Aceman at £28,905, not just round out the lineup. Genesis confirms it is studying such a model, but the project has not received final approval yet.

The car in question would sit below the GV60, which measures roughly 4.5 meters long. Genesis has not disclosed the body style, platform, battery specs or launch date. The new EV could turn out to be a compact crossover or a hatchback with extra ground clearance — both formats are already used by the brand’s main rivals. Genesis Europe boss Peter Kronschnabl has previously acknowledged there is room in the lineup for something smaller than the GV60.

The main obstacle is price. Almost £21,000 separates the GV60 from the entry-level Volvo EX30 in the UK. Even in a pricier trim, a compact Genesis would need to cost noticeably less than today’s GV60, or buyers could simply move up to a bigger model from the brand or pick a well-known European rival instead.

The arrival of a junior model would coincide with Genesis’ expansion across Europe. In 2026 the brand is entering new markets, and by 2027 it plans to operate in 11 European countries with more than 50 points of sale. The region’s current lineup consists mostly of pricier EVs — the GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80 — so a compact newcomer could bring in buyers who had not previously considered Genesis.

At the same time, Genesis is pushing the opposite end of the lineup with the 650-hp GV60 Magma, capable of sprinting to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.

For now the compact Genesis remains a direction rather than a confirmed production car. Without a confirmed platform or price, it is too early to call it a direct Volvo EX30 rival — but pricing will ultimately decide whether the new EV becomes a mass-market entry point into the brand or simply a smaller GV60 with the same premium price tag.
