Toyota GR GT 2027: Nürburgring Prototypes Hint at a Hotter Variant

The Toyota GR GT hasn’t even gone on sale yet, and buyers may already be missing out on the most extreme version. Two prototypes with reworked aerodynamics were spotted lapping the Nürburgring, even though Toyota still officially confirms only the base supercar and the track-only GR GT3.

The first car differs from the GR GT shown in December 2025 with small canards on the front bumper and an exposed carbon-fiber spoiler. This could be a sportier trim or a factory aero package. The second prototype looks far more serious: it gets a larger splitter, four canards, fenders with adjustable vents, and a tall swan-neck rear wing.

There’s no technical confirmation yet. The production GR GT is being developed with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, a single electric motor, and an eight-speed automatic transmission in a rear transaxle unit. Targets stand at no less than 650 hp and 850 Nm of torque, a curb weight of no more than 1,750 kg, and a top speed above 320 km/h. Launch is expected around 2027.

Carscoops speculates the track-focused version could edge closer to 700 hp with reduced weight, but that’s purely an editorial forecast. It’s not even clear whether the spotted cars are separate versions at all, rather than aero-package test mules for the base GR GT.

Toyota has used a similar playbook before with the extreme GRMN Corolla, which added an adjustable rear wing and extensive weight savings. But with the GR GT the difference is fundamental: the Corolla’s production status is confirmed, while the two new supercars remain unconfirmed test prototypes.
