Tesla FSD V15 in 2026: when customer cars get it and what AI4 owners can expect

Tesla has already put FSD V15 on the road, but the first cars to receive the new system were not those of private owners — they were the Robotaxi fleet. That split matters: the company is proving out its freshest architecture on commercial vehicles, while customers will get a later, more polished build.

At the second-quarter 2026 earnings call, Tesla’s VP of AI Ashok Elluswamy said early V15 builds are already running in the robotaxi fleet. About 40% of the seven planned improvement tracks have been merged into them. That is not a claim that the system is 40% finished — it is the share of software work already folded in.

Tesla did not say when V15 will reach customer cars. The company had previously pointed to the end of 2026 or the start of 2027, but that remains a forecast rather than a commitment. Another question is still open: whether cars with the AI4 computer will get the full-size version or a slimmed-down variant with some limitations.

The difference is fundamental. Tesla officially still calls the customer system FSD Supervised: the driver has to watch the road and be ready to intervene. So V15 running in robotaxis does not yet mean a fully autonomous mode is ready for privately owned cars.

The software delay is already showing up in production. As reported earlier, more than 100 Tesla Cybercabs without steering wheels or pedals have piled up near Giga Texas. The cars are ready, but scaling the service without a proven FSD is impossible. For owners, the V15 label itself matters less than the answers to two still-open questions: when the customer build ships, and whether it keeps everything the Robotaxi version can do.
