Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Euro 7 update: engine changes, arrival window, and what stays the same

Alfa Romeo is preparing another update for the current Giulia Quadrifoglio. According to Motor1 France, prototypes have received minor exterior changes and an engine adapted to meet Euro 7 requirements. The update is expected to arrive between late 2026 and early 2027 — before the arrival of a full successor to the model. Euro 7 regulations take effect on November 29, 2026 for newly homologated vehicles, and on November 29, 2027 for all vehicles sold, so the updated Quadrifoglio needs to be ready in time for the first deadline.

This is an important distinction: what's being tested isn't an entirely new Giulia on the STLA Large platform, but an extended version of the car that dates back to 2015. Production of the Giulia and Stelvio, including the Quadrifoglio variants, has already been confirmed to continue at least through 2027. SPEEDME.RU previously reported that orders for the high-performance versions reopened in Europe following a revision of Alfa Romeo's original plans.

The current Giulia Quadrifoglio is powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 520 hp and 600 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The manufacturer hasn't yet confirmed whether output will be preserved after the emissions update, so carrying over the current car's specs to the updated version isn't safe without that caveat. According to Motor1 France, compliance with Euro 7 requirements could push power below the current 520 hp — a similar scenario already played out with the Land Rover Defender Octa and the BMW M5.

The limited scope of the exterior changes makes sense. The main goal of the project is to keep the sports sedan in showrooms while the company reworks plans for the next-generation Giulia and Stelvio. The shift away from the original plan for an all-electric lineup toward multiple powertrain types required additional engineering work and pushed back the timeline for the new models.

For fans of the brand, the update means several more years of access to the classic layout with a front-mounted V6 and rear-wheel drive. Final conclusions, however, will only be possible once power, weight, pricing, and details of the emissions-cleaning system are published.
