Alfa Romeo Tonale successor 2027: platform, plant and launch date

Alfa Romeo is preparing a new mid-size crossover to succeed the Tonale. According to Reuters, the unveiling will happen before the end of 2027, with production set at Stellantis's plant in Melfi, southern Italy. The company itself has now confirmed a more precise timeline: the official presentation is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.

The upcoming model belongs to the C-SUV segment and will be built on the STLA Medium architecture. The platform supports several types of powertrains, so the lineup won't be limited to a single electric version. Engines, dimensions, range and prices haven't been revealed yet. A teaser published on 14 July shows only part of the rear lights and body.

Replacing the Tonale carries special weight for the brand. The current crossover remains one of the pillars of Alfa Romeo's lineup: more than 100,000 units had been built by May 2026, and the model got its own update fairly recently — in April, at the New York auto show. The new car is still nearly a year and a half away, so the Tonale will have to keep carrying sales between the compact Junior and the larger Stelvio for a while yet.

In parallel, Alfa Romeo will update the Junior and, by 2030, launch a C-segment hatchback intended to continue the line of the 147 and Giulietta. Notably, it will use a different architecture — STLA One. That platform is due to arrive in 2027, spanning the B, C and D segments and supporting a range of powertrains, including electrified versions.

The Giulia and Stelvio, including their Quadrifoglio variants, will stay in production until 2027. Direct successors for these models haven't been confirmed yet: Stellantis is still studying ways to keep Alfa Romeo in the pricier D segment. The brand's nearest confirmed newcomer isn't a new sedan or flagship SUV — it's the more mainstream replacement for the Tonale.
