Bugatti Programme Solitaire 2026: new W16 one-off teased ahead of Monterey Car Week

Bugatti ended production of the W16 Mistral on July 16, calling it the final chapter of the road-going career of its 8.0-liter engine. Less than three weeks later, the brand unveiled a cover bearing the W16 name and a glimpse of an unfamiliar wide grille. There's no contradiction here: the teasers belong to Programme Solitaire, not to a new production model.

The first clip was titled “The Sculpture of Speed,” while the second shows a grille noticeably different from the brand's familiar narrow “horseshoe.” Its shape recalls the unrealized 2015 Atlantic concept, though Bugatti hasn't confirmed either the source of inspiration or the car's name.

Programme Solitaire builds no more than two unique cars per year and officially permits the use of existing chassis and powertrains. So ending Mistral production doesn't prevent new one-offs on the Chiron platform with the W16. The program's first projects — Brouillard and F.K.P. Hommage — also received the 1,600-hp version of the quad-turbo engine.

SPEEDME previously showed the W16 Mistral Blanc Éternel with real porcelain accents, as well as one of the 99 Mistral roadsters listed for sale in the US. The new project stands apart in scale: the teaser points not to individual trim on a finished body, but to an entirely new design within Solitaire.

The production era of the W16 has indeed ended along with the last Mistral to leave the Molsheim atelier. Bugatti's next mass-market chapter belongs to the Tourbillon, while the old engine survives only for one-off commissions.

A full reveal is expected during Monterey Car Week, though no official date has been announced. Until the car is revealed, it's premature to assign it a name, price, or specifications: only the W16 engine, Programme Solitaire, and a completely new front end are confirmed.
