Luxeed RX: power, battery options and CLTC range explained

The previously teased Luxeed RX now has certification figures, though still no official price. The new electric crossover from Huawei and Chery produces up to 437 kW (594 hp), offers batteries up to 100.4 kWh, and claims 852 km of range on China's CLTC cycle in its longest-range version. Luxeed says reservations open in August, with firm order and launch timing to be announced later.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology listed the RX in its 32nd catalogue of tax-exempt electric vehicles, showing battery packs of 81.1, 100.3 and 100.4 kWh. Depending on configuration, certified range comes in at 672, 700, 702, 753, 822 or 852 km. The top figure shouldn't be compared directly with European WLTP numbers — China's CLTC cycle produces more optimistic results.

The rear-wheel-drive version gets a 277 kW (377 hp) Huawei electric motor. The all-wheel-drive variant adds a 160 kW front unit, bringing total output to 437 kW. Body length reaches 5,020 mm, width is 2,007 mm, height is 1,585 mm, and the wheelbase is 3,000 mm.

Driver assistance duties fall to a system built around four lidar units, and the battery belongs to Huawei's new Giant Whale platform. Autoblog has compared the coupe-styled SUV's looks to the Ferrari Purosangue, though technically the RX is a mass-produced Chinese EV aimed at the premium end of the domestic market.

Official prices haven't been announced yet. The RX is expected to be positioned above 300,000 yuan (roughly $42,000).

The next verifiable milestone is the reveal of trim levels, reservation terms and the official price. Until then, it's more accurate to view the RX as a pricier rival to the top YU7 trims rather than a 594-hp EV for $37,000.
