In 2026, Peugeot will unveil the next-generation 208, the first model to ride on Stellantis’s STLA Small platform and the opening act for the group’s new wave of compact electric cars. The hatchback goes fully electric and is set to become the benchmark for future models across the A to C segments.STLA Small will replace the current CMP/e-CMP architecture used by the 208, 2008, and Opel Corsa. Stellantis says the new 208 will keep the e-208 name, while the gasoline version of the current generation will stay in production for a time, reflecting today’s unstable EV market. The headline change is inside: a steer-by-wire setup paired with a rectangular Hypersquare steering element, first seen on the Inception concept. The system is designed to sharpen control and free up extra cabin space. The instrument panel is merged with a 21-inch curved display, familiar from the 3008, and the choice of materials and ambient lighting is intended to create a light, open atmosphere. The approach nudges the 208 toward a cleaner, more tech-centric feel without losing everyday usability. The new platform supports batteries from 37 to 82 kWh. The top version targets a driving range of more than 500 km, and variants with two electric motors leave room for a potential GTi with a sportier edge. The Polygon concept, set to debut in November, will preview the design direction with cues from the 308 and 3008 and a clear emphasis on dynamics. Series production of the new Peugeot 208 is scheduled to start in late 2026 at the Zaragoza plant in Spain, followed by the next Corsa and 2008.
