FAW Yueyi 08 Convertible 2026: Chengdu Show Car, Specs and Price of the Standard Sedan

At the Chengdu Auto Show, our correspondent spotted what may be the most unusual variant of the FAW Yueyi 08 on the floor. The Chinese automaker turned its family sedan into a full-fledged open-top car — while keeping the rear row of seats.
This isn’t a production convertible yet, just a demonstration project. Our journalists noted that the car is still a long way from the assembly line — even the doors on the show unit were welded shut. FAW hasn’t announced any plans to put this Yueyi 08 into production.
The conversion goes well beyond simply chopping off the roof. The car gained a new front splitter, wider side skirts, a redesigned rear bumper and a large fixed rear wing. It rides on two-tone sport wheels with red brake calipers. In SPEEDME’s photos, the widened rear fenders stand out especially clearly — visually, the convertible looks noticeably more aggressive than the standard model.

The cabin is almost entirely trimmed in red. The front seats and rear bench remain, so technically the car is still a five-seater. After removing the rigid roof, engineers had to add a reinforcement brace at the rear of the cabin to restore body rigidity.
FAW hasn’t specified exactly what powertrain the show car uses. The production Yueyi 08 is offered as either a battery-electric vehicle or a series hybrid. In every version, an electric motor rated at 202 kW, or 275 hp, drives the rear wheels. The all-electric versions get batteries of 59.04 and 70.5 kWh, good for 565 and 650 km of CLTC range respectively. The top variant runs an 800-volt architecture.
The range-extended version pairs a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 70 kW with a series hybrid setup. Its 27.8 kWh battery is rated for 240 km of electric-only range, while combined range reaches 1,765 km on the CLTC cycle.

The production Yueyi 08 is a fairly large car: it’s 4,920 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. The model gets a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a Qualcomm 8295P chipset, and top trims add lidar and an advanced driver-assistance suite.
In China, the regular Yueyi 08 starts at 99,900 yuan and tops out at 139,900 yuan, or roughly $14,000 to $19,600 at current exchange rates. Pricing for the open-top show car hasn’t been announced.
That’s really the point here: this isn’t FAW trying to enter the convertible market right now, but a demonstration of how far the automaker is willing to push experiments with a model that only recently launched. Five seats, a 275-hp electric drivetrain and a fully open body in this price class is, to put it mildly, a fairly unusual combination.
The Yueyi 08 isn’t officially sold outside China yet, and there’s no indication that this experimental convertible — let alone the standard model — is headed to other markets anytime soon.
