Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer 160 hp diesel: specs and availability

Stellantis is once again offering a 160 hp diesel for the Fiat Ducato and its relatives, the Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper and Opel Movano. Orders for the third-generation 2.2-liter Multijet turbodiesel are already open, but there is one major restriction: the engine is intended exclusively for vehicles converted into campers.

The engine produces 160 hp and sits between the existing 140 hp and 180 hp versions. With the six-speed manual gearbox, maximum torque is 380 Nm; with the eight-speed automatic, it rises to 400 Nm. Stellantis states that the engine complies with the Euro VI emissions standard.

This setup is aimed primarily at motorhomes with a gross weight of around 3.5 tonnes. The 160 hp version fills the gap between the 140 hp and 180 hp diesels, offering extra power without moving up to the most powerful engine in the range.

The idea itself is not new. In 2021, the Fiat Ducato was already available with a 2.2-liter Multijet producing 160 hp. At the time, the range included 120 hp, 140 hp, 160 hp and 180 hp versions, while the 160 hp engine could be paired with a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic. It now returns with a modern eight-speed automatic and a more specialized role.

The important distinction is that this is not a return of 160 hp to the regular commercial-van range. Fiat Professional Germany currently lists Ducato diesels at 120, 140 and 180 hp, while Peugeot France lists the Boxer with 120, 140 and 165 hp diesels. The 160 hp engine is therefore a separate camper-base offering, not a universal new trim for every market.

Stellantis has not published a specific surcharge for the 160 hp engine. The company only refers to attractive pricing, so the meaningful comparison will come when motorhome manufacturers publish prices for 140, 160 and 180 hp versions of otherwise comparable conversions.
