Renault Boreal adds Google Gemini to Techno and Iconic trims in Brazil. Prices start at R$204,990 for a Gemini-equipped version.

Renault Boreal has become the first vehicle built in Brazil to offer Google Gemini through its factory infotainment system. The AI assistant replaces Google Assistant and can control the climate system, side windows and even the panoramic roof using natural speech. There is one limitation: the entry-level Evolution trim does not get Gemini because it lacks the openR link system with Google built-in. Gemini is available on Techno and Iconic.

Instead of using a precise command, the driver can simply say that the cabin is too hot. Gemini understands the intent and adjusts the climate control. It can also follow the context of a conversation, answer follow-up questions and handle several requests without the wake phrase being repeated. Voice control of the panoramic roof is available only on Iconic, which has the required hardware.

Renault confirmed the update in an official announcement dated October 8. This is not the technology’s global debut: on June 15, the company began a gradual rollout of Gemini to compatible vehicles equipped with openR link and Google built-in. Boreal is the first Brazil-built model to offer the new assistant as factory equipment.

Previously sold Boreal vehicles with compatible infotainment hardware can also receive Gemini free of charge. The update is delivered over the air, without a dealer visit. Activation requires a connected Google account, a compatible openR link software version and a supported language. Owners can choose whether to switch to Gemini or keep Google Assistant, and can switch back later.

According to Renault’s current Brazilian price list, the base Evolution costs R$182,990. Techno, the first trim with Google built-in, starts at R$204,990. The top Iconic with a panoramic roof is priced at R$219,990. The R$15,000 difference between the two higher trims covers more than the equipment related to voice control.

The Brazilian Boreal’s powertrain is unchanged: it uses a 1.3-liter turbo engine producing up to 163 hp and 270 Nm, paired with a six-speed EDC dual-clutch transmission. In Turkey, the Boreal range is broader: alongside a 145 hp 1.3 TCe EDC petrol version, a 160 hp full hybrid E-Tech is also offered. The Brazilian model currently uses a conventional combustion engine.

For owners of compatible cars, the main change is software: new ways to interact with the vehicle arrive without replacing hardware. The available voice commands still depend on the equipment fitted to each trim.
