Geely Google built-in 2027: Gemini, Maps and launch plans

Geely plans to bring Google Maps, Play and Gemini to selected cars from late 2027. The first models and markets are still unconfirmed.

Geely, Lynk & Co, Proton, Riddara and smart cars are set to gain built-in Google services, including Gemini, Google Maps and Google Play. Geely Holding announced its strategic partnership with Google on 16 October 2026. The first cars with the new integration are not expected until the second half of 2027, and no specific models have been named.

According to Geely Auto Group, the agreement covers Google Automotive Services in eligible vehicles sold in markets where Google services are available. The first rollout is planned outside China and the United States. Timing will depend on vehicle readiness, local regulations and launch conditions in individual markets.

This is not the same as Android Auto, which projects smartphone apps onto a car display. Google built-in runs directly in the infotainment system, providing Google Maps navigation, access to Google Play apps and Gemini voice features without requiring a phone to remain connected. Some functions still require internet access and a Google account.

Artificial intelligence is a key part of the project. Gemini can let drivers interact with digital services using natural speech, request directions and control supported functions. Google cautions that availability depends on the automaker, model, language and country. Having Google built-in therefore does not guarantee the same features everywhere.

Google is also expanding the range of apps available through its in-car Play store. Announced additions include the Firefox browser and more entertainment services. Some apps may be restricted while driving for safety reasons, and availability will depend on the vehicle and region.

Geely Holding and Google already have a history of working together. The electric Polestar 2 has offered built-in Google services since 2020. The group now plans to extend a similar digital ecosystem to more brands, including Geely, Lynk & Co, Proton, Riddara and smart.

The manufacturer has not identified which cars will be first to receive the new infotainment platform. Nor has it announced upgrades for vehicles already on the road. Google Automotive Services support in new models will depend on the exact hardware and software configuration and the sales market.

More details about the models, launch countries and schedules are expected as the project progresses. Until those announcements, it is too early to say that any particular future Geely vehicle will offer Gemini or Google Maps.
