Volkswagen has officially confirmed the expansion of its plant in Września, Poland — the next generation of the fully electric Crafter will be built here. The site will receive a new body shop and a battery warehouse, with construction starting in 2026. Completion is slated for 2027, after which the plant will become VW’s key site for commercial electric vehicles in Europe — a fast-growing segment heading into 2025.The Volkswagen Poznań complex is already regarded as one of the group’s most advanced: more than 1,300 robots, AI-led quality control, and operations powered entirely by green energy. It currently builds the Caddy, Crafter, and MAN TGE, and the shift to the new e-Crafter should strengthen the brand’s standing in light commercial electric vehicles.Company representatives said the expansion will increase production resilience and provide jobs. The new-generation e-Crafter is part of the group’s electrification strategy and is intended to compete with electric vans from Mercedes and Ford. For businesses increasingly choosing quiet models with low operating costs, this is a meaningful step. The decision looks well-judged: the commercial EV market is growing, and the Crafter has long needed a fresh start. If the company keeps pricing under control and offers a respectable driving range, the model could become one of Europe’s most sought-after electric vans.
