Ford is recalling 59,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada over a fire risk tied to the engine block heater. The company found that on some vehicles, the heater can leak coolant. If the unit is connected to a power source without GFCI protection, the fluid can cause a short circuit that in certain cases led to fires. Most incidents were reported in Canada.

The issue affects Ford and Lincoln models, including the Bronco Sport, Ranger, Maverick, Escape, Explorer and Corsair, as well as the discontinued MKC and Fusion. Owners are advised not to plug in the heater until the part is replaced. As part of the recall, notifications will be sent to customers, and dealers will install a new component at no charge.

Initial letters are scheduled to go out in October, with the main repair phase planned for early 2026. For the 2025 auto market, this is another clear sign that safety stays at the forefront, even when the campaigns are expensive and carry reputational risk.

Ford reacted in time, yet the very fact of heater-related fires is a worrying signal. In regions with harsh winters these systems are essential, and reliability here has to be uncompromising—the kind drivers can depend on long before the engine warms up.
