Opel is gearing up for a new generation of its top seller, the Corsa Electric. Brand CEO Florian Hüttl confirmed that the base version would be priced at around €25,000, positioning it directly against the upcoming Renault 5 and Volkswagen ID. Polo. Production will stay at Stellantis’s Figueruelas plant near Zaragoza, where CATL is also building a gigafactory with an annual capacity of 50 GWh.

The next Corsa EV will sit on the STLA Small platform, shared with the next Peugeot 208. The key to lowering the entry price will be LFP batteries, a more affordable alternative to traditional NCM packs. Opel says that switching to this chemistry, alongside design optimization, will hold the price line without compromising quality—exactly the sort of pragmatic move that can turn an electric hatch into a mainstream choice.

The hatchback will keep its recognizable look while borrowing cues from the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept shown in Munich. In the flagship version, a battery of up to 82 kWh is set to deliver up to 500 km of WLTP range, which on paper puts it ahead of the future Renault 5 and ID. Polo.

Manufacturing in Spain was chosen for economic reasons—Opel stated outright that building an affordable EV at that price in Germany is not feasible. Alongside the base model, the lineup will include a sporty GSE variant with a powerful electric drivetrain, aimed at rivals such as the Alpine A290 and CUPRA Raval VZ. A performance-focused derivative should also sharpen the car’s image and broaden its appeal.

The new Opel Corsa Electric 2027 is set to be more than a successful model’s successor; it signals the brand’s shift toward accessible, mass-market electric mobility made in Europe.
