Polestar has announced a recall of the 3 electric crossover tied to a hood mounting defect. The company found that some vehicles built between November 2024 and May 2025 may be missing up to six bolts in the hood’s fender mounting assembly, which raises the risk of the hood detaching while the vehicle is in motion.

The issue came to light after a notification from supplier Volvo Car Corporation in July, with official confirmation on August 18. A total of 68 vehicles delivered to the U.S. market are affected. If the flaw is present, dealers will replace the entire mounting assembly free of charge.

Dealer notifications began on August 25, while customers will receive official letters only in October.

Built on the Volvo EX90 platform, the Polestar 3 is offered in several versions, ranging from the rear-wheel-drive Long Range Single Motor with up to 563 km of range to the flagship Long Range Dual Motor Performance Pack rated at 517 hp and capable of 0–100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

For a brand that positions itself as premium, missteps like this weigh on image. At a starting price of $79,400, buyers expect not just pace and technology but also flawless assembly. Hardware oversights of this kind attract outsized scrutiny in this bracket; fastening integrity is a basic expectation, and customers remember when basics are missed. The fix is straightforward, yet the episode highlights how exacting the premium EV space has become.
