Texas-based shop Vigilante 4x4, known for muscular restomods of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Cherokee, has unveiled its first fully electric project. Rather than a straightforward conversion, the engineers built a new chassis from scratch, preserving the iconic SJ silhouette while reworking everything underneath. That choice reads like a clean-sheet rethink that keeps the nostalgia where it belongs—on the surface.

The company made its name with HEMI-powered builds, but now Vigilante is looking ahead. The electric layout dispenses with a traditional drivetrain: no gearbox, transfer case, or driveshafts. Two electric motors—front and rear—deliver permanent all-wheel drive and instant torque, a configuration that aligns with the original Wagoneer’s off-road character without diluting it.

The battery sits low and centered in the chassis for better weight distribution and stability. The suspension is now independent at both ends, with FOX dampers and strong six-piston brakes. Regeneration, two charging ports, and a modern cooling system round out the hardware.

On the outside, the classic SJ stays familiar—stance and proportions intact—while the contemporary electric hardware hides beneath the vintage bodywork. It is a prototype for now, yet early reaction is enthusiastic, as the project blends respect for heritage with present-day tech. Vigilante said the electric version would not replace its gasoline HEMI restomods, serving instead as an alternative aimed at the future without sacrificing the thrill behind the wheel.
