The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 keeps quietly stacking up lap records. After a headline-making run across American circuits, the company has added another marker at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. There, a pre-production ZR1 fitted with the ZTK package clocked a 1:18.2 lap with Ron Fellows at the wheel. The video was published in open access here. What makes the result resonate is that Fellows already held the production-car record at this track, having previously set the benchmark in a Corvette Z06. The ZR1 shaved almost four seconds off that time—a gap that, on this kind of circuit, reads less like a lucky flyer and more like a generational leap.Fellows attributed the performance to a blend of three factors: high downforce, stability under braking, and a power delivery that’s easy to read. With the ZTK aero package, the ZR1 can generate more than 550 kg of downforce at speed, which lets the driver brake later and carry speed through the fast sequences where Mosport especially rewards confidence in the car. That combination tends to unlock lap time without theatrics, just relentless pace.
