Subaru of America has announced that the 2026 Subaru Forester has earned the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s latest round of vehicle ratings. The recognition covers every Forester configuration, including the Subaru Forester Hybrid, and represents the model’s tenth IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ distinction—a breadth that makes the result carry even more weight.Jeff Walters, president and chief operating officer of Subaru of America, said that safety remains the brand’s top priority and that Subaru will continue building vehicles that support driver awareness and protect passengers across the lineup. He added that the 2026 Forester’s TOP SAFETY PICK+ is both an honor and a tribute to the teams who keep safety at the forefront of every Subaru.Under IIHS criteria adopted for 2025, vehicles must earn an acceptable rating in the updated moderate overlap front crash test to qualify for TOP SAFETY PICK, while a good rating is required to achieve TOP SAFETY PICK+. IIHS awards TOP SAFETY PICK+ annually to a limited number of models that meet its most stringent safety standards. The revised test also adds a rear-seat dummy to better assess protection for back-seat occupants—an emphasis that clearly matters in everyday use.
