Ford Motor has filed a patent application for a system that could lock body accessories on its future pickup trucks.

The system would automatically lock all accessories, such as tonneau covers, toolboxes, and other elements, when the vehicle owner walks away from the truck. Similarly, the accessories would unlock automatically as the owner approaches again. This technology resembles the widely known smartphone feature often called "phone-as-a-key."

Ford has previously introduced various solutions to improve how body accessories are secured and attached. The goal of these innovations is to enhance vehicle usability, especially when transporting large or complex items. This new patented system represents another step forward in boosting functionality and comfort for Ford pickup owners.
