Volkswagen is gearing up to launch the new electric ID. Polo, set to become the brand's key model in the B-segment. The debut is scheduled for April 29, with order books opening in May and the first customer deliveries expected in the autumn.Production of the ID. Polo will take place at the Martorell plant in Spain, where it will share an assembly line with the CUPRA Raval. The electric vehicle is built on the front-wheel-drive MEB+ platform and will offer several power variants, including versions with 116, 135, 211, and 226 horsepower. The top GTI variant will feature an electronically controlled VAQ differential and a specially tuned chassis. The model will come with two battery options: a lithium-iron-phosphate battery with a capacity of 37 kWh and a nickel-cobalt-manganese battery with 52 kWh.With the 52 kWh battery, the maximum range will be around 450 km according to the WLTP cycle. The base version supports charging up to 90 kW, while the higher-end version supports up to 130 kW, allowing a charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 23 minutes. Volkswagen has announced a starting price below 25,000 euros before subsidies, specifically in Germany from 24,990 euros, but this version won't be available immediately.At the start of sales, only the 52 kWh battery variant will be offered, with its price expected to approach 30,000 euros. The version with the 37 kWh battery will go on sale only by the end of the year and won't reach dealerships before 2027. This means the ID. Polo will directly compete with the Renault 5 in its Comfort Range version, which was the third best-selling electric car in Europe in 2025.Despite its compact dimensions, Volkswagen promises a spacious interior on par with the Golf and a trunk volume of 435 liters, a high figure for its class. The interior design will become more traditional for the brand, with a return to physical buttons and the removal of touch-sensitive elements on the steering wheel, while retaining a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a central screen of nearly 13 inches.
