Porsche is entering the final stretch of development for the Cayenne Electric. The brand’s most popular SUV is getting a fully electric version for the first time, and ahead of its debut engineers have put it through punishing trials worldwide. Tests span searing heat up to +50°C in the Middle East and −35°C cold in Scandinavia to ensure system stability—a spread that signals a focus on consistency, not just lab results.A defining choice here is the heavy lean on digital development. Porsche has replaced more than 120 physical prototypes with computer simulations, deploying VR and artificial intelligence to evaluate components at the design stage. A new composite rig can precisely reproduce acceleration, braking, charging, and even Nürburgring laps—a clear sign of how much of the work has moved into the virtual realm. To boost reliability, an upgraded thermal-management system keeps the battery and power units both cooled and heated so the vehicle stays efficient in any conditions—crucial for real-world EV use.Pre-series cars have already covered more than 150,000 kilometers across cities, highways, and off-road routes, underlining the design’s durability. The Cayenne Electric is expected to make its world premiere at the end of 2025. Porsche says the electric version will preserve the model’s sporting character and deliver the brand’s signature driving feel—an intention that, judging by the test program, remains front and center.
