Steeda Autosports has upgraded the 2025 Ford Explorer ST by fitting it with a brake system from the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. This modification has resulted in improved braking performance for the crossover. The standard Explorer ST typically stops from 60 mph (96 km/h) in about 33.2 meters. In Steeda's tests, the average braking distance before the upgrade was 31.7 meters. After installing the Shelby GT350R brakes, the stopping distance dropped to an average of 29 meters across three attempts. The GT350R brake rotors are roughly 10% larger in diameter than the stock units, yet they add only 0.34 kg in weight. The calipers and rotors feature the signature Race Red color, which also gives the crossover a more aggressive look. This project follows Steeda's earlier development of a custom tuning program for the Explorer ST after accessing the Fully Networked Vehicle system. The latest upgrade continues their efforts to enhance the model's capabilities. Overall, it showcases how components from the brand's performance models can be used to boost efficiency without major structural changes.
