Autoblog has released its updated 2025 vehicle rankings, focusing not on performance or fuel economy, but on the quality of advanced highway driving assistance systems—AHD (Advanced Highway Driving). For everyday commuting, these technologies are becoming crucial, taking over routine tasks like braking, lane keeping, lane changes, and navigating traffic.

The clear winner is the Rivian Universal Hands-Free system, which boasts the largest coverage area: 3.5 million miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada, including not just highways but also urban thoroughfares. It outperforms GM Super Cruise and Ford BlueCruise by operating in a wider range of conditions and featuring a more modern sensor suite. Rivian sells this functionality as a software unlock: a one-time payment of $2,500 or via subscription.

Tesla's Autopilot/FSD is noted as the most familiar and widely used system, with 6.8 billion miles of data, high accuracy, and rapid over-the-air updates. However, its price is significantly higher, starting at $8,000.

The most affordable tech option is Nissan ProPILOT Assist, available on the Leaf and Sentra. These systems aren't full hands-free solutions, but they substantially reduce driver workload. The Kia Niro EV earns recognition for the best traffic recuperation, thanks to its i-Pedal feature and effective integration with AHD.

In the safety category, the award goes to Volvo Pilot Assist with LiDAR. This system demonstrates superior responsiveness, warning of and preventing potential collisions before the driver even notices a threat.

GM Super Cruise is highlighted as the optimal hands-free system for its price-to-precision ratio, while Ford BlueCruise is deemed the best mid-budget solution, available on mainstream models. Mercedes Drive Pilot is recognized as the most advanced, yet limited, Level 3 system—it only operates up to 64 km/h and is exclusive to flagship vehicles.

Overall, AHD technologies are becoming the foundation of comfort for daily drives, and the range of solutions—from affordable to premium—means there's a system to fit any budget and driving style.
