New Dacia Sandero 2028: electric version, price and release date

The electric Dacia Sandero is no longer a myth: the brand’s leadership has confirmed that the next generation of the best-selling supermini will arrive around 2028 and will be offered with several types of powertrains, including a full electric option. But a price of around €20,000, an LFP battery and a standalone SUV instead of the Stepway remain forecasts for now.

Lina Ribeiro, who runs Dacia in the UK, told Auto Express that the new Sandero programme is on track. The car will keep an internal combustion engine — most likely as part of hybrid powertrains — while gaining a BEV version for the first time. That matches the brand’s official strategy: Dacia intends to launch four electric vehicles by 2030 and bring the share of electrified cars to roughly two-thirds of sales.

The final technical specification isn’t locked in yet, though. Dacia CEO Katrin Adt said the platform choice hasn’t been finalised. That means the widely reported adapted CMF-B architecture can’t be treated as confirmed for now. The same goes for the LFP battery, its capacity, range and charging power.

The rumoured starting price under €20,000 isn’t confirmed either. It’s a journalistic benchmark based on Dacia’s pricing policy, not an announced price.

There’s also an update on the Stepway. Despite predictions that the version would become a standalone B-SUV, the latest information points to the Sandero Stepway staying within the family. Design director David Durand only promises to sharpen the difference in character between the regular Sandero and the raised version.

This noticeably adjusts the earlier picture of the next-generation Sandero, in which a sub-€20,000 price, CMF-B and a standalone Stepway were treated as the likely scenario. Meanwhile, electrification of the model has already begun: the current Sandero Stepway is gradually expanding its range of powertrains, and the Hybrid 155 has already appeared in the European line-up.

So by 2028 Dacia is preparing not just a cheap EV, but a Sandero offering a choice between an electric drivetrain and hybrid technology. Battery specifications and price now remain the two main unknowns.
