When shopping for a used car, buyers often face questions about reliability and long-term maintenance costs. The authoritative American publication Consumer Reports publishes an annual ranking of the most reliable vehicles across various classes, including popular pickup truck models. According to its latest report, five time-tested models have earned the most trust, each with its own strengths and some operational quirks.

1. Ford Maverick

Recommended model years: 2023–2025.

This compact urban pickup from American automaker Ford has become a popular choice thanks to its small size and good handling. Experts point to some minor issues with the braking system and transmission as drawbacks. Overall reliability remains quite high, however, with the 2023 model year standing out as particularly dependable in the eyes of many specialists.

2. Honda Ridgeline

Recommended model years: 2009, 2013, 2020–2021, 2023.

This midsize Japanese pickup has gained popularity for its distinctive design and strong engine performance. Owners have occasionally encountered problems with electronics and the multimedia screen. Despite these minor issues, the vehicle's construction has proven robust and durable, earning it a solid place in the Consumer Reports ranking.

3. Hyundai Santa Cruz

Recommended model years: 2024–2025.

The South Korean model has drawn consumer attention with its substantial size and powerful engine. It also features a spacious cabin and a well-configured cargo bed. Some minor fit-and-finish details have been noted as drawbacks, but most owners praise the high level of comfort and reliability this truck offers.

4. Nissan Frontier

Recommended model years: 2015–2019, 2024–2025.

Simple construction and high reliability have made this vehicle a market favorite. The main criticisms involve lower-quality paintwork and interior materials. Even so, the truck shows excellent durability and low failure rates, even after many years of use.

5. Toyota Tacoma

Recommended model years: 2011, 2013–2015, 2017–2019, 2021–2025.

One of the ranking leaders rightfully holds its position thanks to Toyota's outstanding reputation. This pickup is characterized by reliability across nearly all components, with only occasional, rare glitches in the climate control and transmission. The 2018 model year deserves special mention, scoring 81 out of 100 points to become the absolute reliability leader among competitors in its class.
