Tesla has announced the start of winter testing for its electric truck, the Tesla Semi. The tests are taking place in Alaska, one of the most challenging regions for vehicle evaluation due to extreme cold temperatures and difficult road conditions. Engineers are assessing battery performance, the powertrain, and control systems in this harsh climate. These trials are essential to ensure the electric truck operates reliably in real-world conditions.

The Tesla Semi project was first unveiled back in 2017. After several years of development, the company began limited deliveries to initial customers in December 2022. However, full-scale mass production has not yet commenced.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that the company aims to launch high-volume production of these electric semis in 2026. To support this, Tesla is constructing a dedicated facility near the Giga Nevada plant, which will focus specifically on manufacturing the Semi. Pricing for the truck is already set: the base version with standard range is estimated at around $250,000, while the extended-range variant costs approximately $290,000.

Experts highlight that the Tesla Semi could significantly disrupt the freight transportation market. Electric semis have the potential to substantially reduce fuel and maintenance costs, making them particularly appealing to logistics companies.

A successful mass production launch of the Tesla Semi would mark a pivotal moment in the evolution of electric commercial transport and strengthen Tesla's position in the global electric vehicle market.
