Volkswagen is gearing up to unveil the refreshed Atlas crossover for the 2027 model year. The company has released the first teaser of the upcoming model, with its official debut scheduled for early April at the New York Auto Show.

The Atlas is one of Volkswagen's key models in the American market. Last year, this three-row family SUV was the brand's second best-selling vehicle in the U.S. after the Tiguan. This update is particularly important for the company against the backdrop of a roughly 13% decline in Volkswagen sales in the country.

The published teaser shows the rear of the vehicle. The new model will feature modern lighting graphics with a wide LED strip that connects the taillights and illuminates the Volkswagen logo. This design solution is already used in the brand's latest models.

According to preliminary information, the design of the new Atlas will largely be based on the Chinese Teramont Pro crossover, which is already on sale in China. Spy photos of prototypes confirm that the American version will have a similar body architecture and stylistic elements.

The interior is also expected to see significant changes. A new digital panel with multiple screens is anticipated, along with extended ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and a premium Harman Kardon audio system. Some versions might even feature a front passenger seat with massage and ventilation functions.

Technically, the Atlas will transition to the updated MQB Evo platform. The main engine will be the fifth-generation 2.0-liter EA888 turbocharged four-cylinder. In the American version of the Tiguan, this engine produces about 268 horsepower, but for the Atlas, the power output could be increased.

The official premiere of the new Volkswagen Atlas will take place at the New York International Auto Show, running from April 3 to 12. Sales of the refreshed crossover in the U.S. are expected in the fall of 2026.
