Tesla has released a new software update, version 2026.8, which introduces a Comfort Braking feature for the refreshed Model Y crossover. This option is exclusively available for Juniper version vehicles from the 2026 model year onward.

According to the company, the new function makes the car's stopping action smoother during normal braking. This should enhance comfort for both the driver and passengers during everyday driving.

Tesla explains that the system optimizes the vehicle's behavior at the moment of a complete stop, smoothing out deceleration. However, the company doesn't clarify why this feature was implemented, given that many Model Y owners already rely on regenerative braking and rarely use the brake pedal.

The update is being distributed over-the-air via OTA, a system that allows Tesla to add new features and improve vehicle performance without requiring a service center visit. In the past, the company has used software updates to refine regenerative braking, enhance Full Self-Driving capabilities, and improve steering and noise reduction functions.
