Half a Century of Polo: Volkswagen Bottles the Anniversary into 500 Cars

The Volkswagen Polo turned 50 with a limited Edition 50. In Japan, just 500 examples of the hatchback will be built, priced at 3,869,000 yen (roughly $24,700).

The anniversary version was put together by Volkswagen's German headquarters. It is based on the Polo TSI Style, but the Edition 50 picks up details that instantly set it apart from ordinary cars: special sill plates, a decorative interior panel, 17-inch Tortosa wheels and «50» badges on the B-pillars. For the first time, the model is offered in a dedicated Crystal Ice Blue Metallic paint.

The equipment is also richer than on the base trims. The standard list includes heated front seats, selectable driving modes and the brand's Discover Pro infotainment system. For a city hatchback that matters more than extra power: people buy a Polo not for records but for comfort, clear ergonomics and a sensible set of options without long trips through the configurator.

The 500-car cap turns the Edition 50 into a tidy anniversary keepsake rather than a mass offering. Volkswagen does not change the Polo's character, instead betting on rarity and recognizable details — exactly what, years from now, separates a special version from an ordinary hatchback.
